They send it to avoid spammers creating accounts. You just need it that once, just ask a friend to use theirs to create it, you will not need it again.
As of now, to get around that, when you sign up, at the place where it says “Recovery email,” LEAVE THAT BLANK.
Google won’t ask for your phone if you leave that blank. They might fix that in the future but . . . for now, that’s the way to go.
are you going through a proxy?
if so set your browser to connect directly to the internet. it should work.
google does this because they don’t recognize the ip address(when you go through a proxy).
If you’re trying to sign up for a Google Account, you may be asked to provide a mobile number to verify your identity. We’ll send you a verification code via SMS, so make sure the phone you use has text-messaging capabilities. If you don’t have a mobile phone and are prompted to enter your phone number, you may want to ask a friend if you can use his or her number to receive a code.
